My Review of SEO School by Naomi Dunford of IttyBiz.com

Posted on March 18, 2010

Full Disclosure: I’m a customer of IttyBiz.com and I’m an affiliate marketer for them.  This means if you buy SEO School through me, I get a commission.

Money gets my attention. Always has.

So, about a year ago, when I heard Naomi Dunford of very-small business marketing site IttyBiz.com say on a podcast that she made over $12K grand the first day she launched her ebook, and cleared $250K the first year of her microbusiness consulting firm, I said “this hammer knows what she’s doing, and I need to learn what she knows.” So, I went to her site, loved it, loved her style, and next thing you know I’m buying SEO School. And you should too.  It was so easy for me to learn her SEO tactics, that I’ve used them on all my blogs and business websites, every single day, every single post I write.

Here’s what you learn:

  • The Psychology of Search
  • What to Rank For
  • On-Page Optimization
  • Off-Page SEO
  • Creativity and Common Sense
  • For Bloggers Only
  • The Future of Google

Why did I buy it, seriously?

I was somewhat skeptical, given this was my first ebook purchase, and most of the “Make a Million with SEO and buy a Custom Escalade tomorrow” -type ads were littering web pages along with Acacai and Weight Loss Pills. In a word: shady.   Three things sold me on this book

  1. It takes the mystery out of SEO and explains it in layperson’s terms.
  2. Saved me time.
  3. Saved me money.
  4. Made me laugh out loud the whole time.

SEO Isn’t Super-Top-Secret Engineering Calculus

A lot of social media gurus *ahem* treat search engine optimization in one of two ways.  Its either like something NASA invented – deep, spooky, and complicated, so you need to sit and watch their endlessly complex PowerPoint session for 3 days until your eyes dry out.  If not that method, they treat SEO like the secret ingredient they fail to mention (on purpose) when they give you their recipe for their fried chicken.

Now, I’ve read books, listened to presentations, course descriptions, etc that supposedly encompass social media end-to-end, yet don’t say a mumbling word about SEO. Not because they don’t know, but because they don’t want you to know – lest your site out-perform theirs. SEO School cuts through the weeds and tech-speak and gets right to real techniques you can implement immediately on your website or blog.

You Don’t Have to Take a Sabbatical to Learn

Naomi will tell you herself, there are plenty of good SEO books, courses, sites, etc out there. Most of them, she found, were very time-intensive and complex for the average person. The old adage “time is money” is never more true than it is in this economy. What she did with this book is do all the legwork for you, and boil down the best, most effective SEO tactics in layperson’s terms all in 53 pages.  To paraphrase Naomi : when you are trying to figure out how to make money so you can pay your mortgage next month, you don’t have time to play around with complex theories.

Compared to Grad School, SEO School is Pocket Change

I’m in grad school part time at West Virginia University. If you haven’t priced graduate education lately, let me school ya.$700 per credit hour. Each class being 3 credit hours, that is $2100. Per class. US Dollars. Do Not Pass Go.  While WVU and a few other major schools are starting to offer programs in Internet Marketing or Digital Media,  this kind of education is still in its infancy. Said another way, there are  not a lot of legit courses out there, and definitely not a lot of affordable legit courses.

Oh, and a Word About Ms Naomi Dunford …

For the uninitiated, Naomi is a piece of work. If the buzz cut and bright red glasses didn’t clue you in, read an article she’s written and you’ll definitely see what I mean. In short, Naomi occasionally swears like a merchant marine to make a point, and is known to reference alcohol and sex shops to make marketing analogies. Put it this way: If Millie Jackson was a marketing consultant, she’d be Naomi Dunford.  If you are one of these “clutch the pearls” types, may wanna pass.  We straight? Ok, now to the good part.

Okay Ms Affilliate, how much is this going to cost me you may say. Ready?

$47

Yeah. That’s not a typo. I didn’t miss a decimal point.

$47 bucks.

Now, I can run on about what $47 will or won’t buy you, blah blah blah, but the truth is, I don’t think I need to. You know what an investment is at this point in your life, and what a return on investment is.  If the most important thing you can do for your site, blog, and/or business is get the right sets of eyes looking at what you have to offer, can you afford NOT to invest $47?

Now, if you found this review helpful, please use the link below to buy. (so I can keep my house.) I’m not going to trick you into it or create links you bump into. I’m telling you up front, because we’re cool like that. Straight like 9:15.
